Metro Centre

The Metro Centre is a large shopping centre in Gateshead which was originally constructed in 1986. The centre has over 300 retail units occupying over 2,000,000 sqft of floor space.

lambert-gill have an ongoing relationship with the Metro Centre to carry out various landlord works ahead of tenants fitting out teams. The shopping centre continues to be operational throughout the duration of all works.

We recently carried out extensive internal and external works on the site of the former two story, 30,000 sqft, House of Fraser department store in preparation for a major new NHS facility.

Works included:- a residual strip out, infill of the atrium, internal separation works to ground floor, construction of new lift pits, lift openings and lift shaft walls, construction of a new corridor to the first floor to connect the unit to the mall, roof repair works, provision of above ground drainage, and the formation of a new external ambulance layby including landscaping works.

Good communication was paramount as works proceeded adjacent to a live retail environment. Seamless overlaps were maintained between lambert-gill and the NHS fitting out contractor. The project was delivered to our client’s satisfaction.
